For a second year Island Stage Left offers a free after school theatre workshop for teens, designed to help young people develop self-expression, self-confidence and a greater understanding of the human condition. Through theatre games, improvisation, and acting exercises students will expand their natural creativity and thinking 'outside the box', encourage collaboration and ensemble, access their emotions and learn to express them in a theatrically imaginative way. The workshop is open to any middle or high-schooler.
"I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being." ~ Oscar Wilde - Character Development

ISL's weekly class has quickly become a highlight of all of our weeks. Each Wednesday we embark on some new wildly fun exercise that forces us to get out of our comfort zones and teaches us a lot about both how to act and what it means to trust another person in a split-second decision. Will, FHHS Senior I thoroughly enjoyed the Theater Games Workshop classes this year. Though at times challenging for me, I loved the emphasis on 'focus' on the stage, especially through one's movements and physicality. The various exercises and challenges given to us as players greatly helped me as an actor and enhanced my own work. I really appreciate having the opportunity to be involved with more theater outside of school, especially on a small island with fewer things available to students. I hope to be able to continue with the Theater Games Workshop classes in the coming fall.Audre, Spring Street School Sophomore Every Wednesday, I always greatly look forward to this class. It's a time to just let go of everything and also jump out of your comfort zone. In many ways, this class not only helps with acting, but it also reflects real life. I always feel very welcome with our small group as we have come to know each other very well. Almost all of the exercises I enjoy because they are challenges. There's no hiding allowed. Fiona, Spring Street School 7th grade
